One To Watch - "A Dog Named Christmas"

The holiday season opens with a festive canine tale

The Humane Society of the United States

  • "A Dog Named Christmas" airs on CBS on November 29 at 9:00pm ET/PT. Erik Heinila/Hallmark

The tender story of how one remarkable dog transforms the lives of a family, A Dog Named Christmas is a seasonal treat for everyone who has experienced the joys of the human-companion animal bond.  Starring Bruce Greenwood, Linda Emond and Noel Fisher, it tells of a developmentally challenged young man with an innate talent for caring for animals in need.

When Todd McCray (Fisher) hears that a local animal shelter is seeking temporary homes for its dogs during the days leading up to Christmas, he sets out to convince his family that they should foster a dog. Despite his father George's (Greenwood) objections, Todd prevails and the McCrays become a foster family to a lovable, energetic lab, whom Todd names "Christmas."

Not content with helping just one dog, Todd uses his initiative and special gifts of persuasion to encourage his entire community to participate in fostering all the dogs from the shelter.

Will Todd be allowed to keep “Christmas” beyond the holidays? You’ll have to watch to find out!  A Dog Named Christmas premieres on the CBS-TV network, Sunday, November 29 at 9:00pm, ET/PT
