As AKC National Championship Airs, The HSUS Calls on the Nation’s Leading Dog Registry Group to Support Efforts to End Abuses at Puppy Mills
In the wake of one of the largest puppy mill cruelty convictions in history involving an American Kennel Club ‘Champion’ breeder, and with Saturday’s scheduled broadcast of the AKC’s National Championship dog show, The Humane Society of the United States is appealing to the AKC to stop obstructing animal welfare reforms and to join efforts to protect dogs at commercial breeding facilities known as puppy mills, where the breeds made popular at the Championship are often churned out for sale online, through classified ads, and at pet stores across the nation.

Pennsylvania House of Representatives Passes Legislation to Reduce Cost of Care for Rescued Animals
The Humane Society of the United States applauds the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for passing House Bill 82, to require alleged animal abusers to pay reasonable costs to care for their animals after seizure. The vote was 163-84.

Bipartisan Legislation Introduced in Congress to Crack Down on Animal Fighting Spectators
The Humane Society of the United States applauds U.S. Reps. Tom Marino, R-Pa., James McGovern, D-Mass., John Campbell, R-Calif., and Jim Moran, D-Va., for introducing H.R. 366, the Animal Fighting Spectator Prohibition Act, a bill that would outlaw spectators’ willful attendance at organized animal fights and impose additional penalties for bringing a minor.

Wayne's Blog: Improving Horse Welfare in 2012
In 2012, The HSUS's horse protection work included an investigation exposing soring in the Tennessee walking horse industry, blocking horse slaughter plants from opening in several states, stopping government agencies from killing wild burros, among others. In 2013 we plan to expand our efforts against soring and horse slaughter.
