Connecticut State Reps. Auden Grogins and Diana Urban Receive 2012 Humane State Legislator Award
The Humane Society of the United States, the nation’s largest animal protection organization, is pleased to announce that Connecticut state Reps. Auden Grogins, D-Bridgeport, and Diana Urban, D-North Stonington and Stonington, have been selected as Connecticut’s Humane State Legislators for 2012.

Humane Lobby Day Kicks Off in Montpelier
Vermonters converged on the State Capitol for Humane Lobby Day in Montpelier to lobby in support of several measures including bills to improve conditions for farm animals by banning the extreme confinement of breeding pigs in gestation crates, and to strengthen standards for commercial dog breeders.

Federal Lawmakers Push to Protect Dogs in Puppy Mills
The Humane Society of the United States and Humane Society Legislative Fund commend federal lawmakers for reintroducing legislation that will close a loophole in the Animal Welfare Act regulations that currently allows puppy mills to sell dogs over the Internet without any oversight or standards of care.

Legislation Introduced to Crack Down on Captive Hunting
The Humane Society of the United States praised Illinois Rep. Kelly Burke, D-Evergreen Park, for introducing House Bill 3118, legislation to crack down on captive hunting facilities – fenced enclosures where animals are trapped and shot for guaranteed trophies. HB 3118 would place a moratorium on any new captive hunt facilities for native mammals from opening in the state.

Kyle Chandler and Daughter, Sawyer, to Join Texas Humane Lobby Day in Support of Banning Shark Fin Trade
Kyle Chandler, star of “Friday Night Lights,” Oscar-winning “Argo” and “Zero Dark Thirty,” and his 11-year-old daughter, Sawyer, will be joining The Humane Society of the United States and other concerned animal welfare advocates to meet with Texas lawmakers and lobby for better protections for sharks.
