Federal Court Orders Water Pollution Case to Proceed Against Hudson Valley Foie Gras
A federal court in Manhattan has cleared the way for a lawsuit filed by The Humane Society of the United States charging the nation's largest foie gras factory farm with over 1,100 violations of the federal Clean Water Act. Ruling from the bench, Judge Harold Baer rejected Hudson Valley Foie Gras' motion for summary judgment, and ordered the case, which The HSUS filed in 2006, to proceed to discovery immediately.

Calif. Residents Ask Water Board To Address Pollution From Egg Farm
Central Valley residents and The HSUS have filed a petition concerning an egg factory farm's practice of dumping enormous amounts of manure next to a ditch that drains directly to the San Joaquin River. The waste is the result of Olivera Egg Ranch's intensive confinement of more than 700,000 hens in cramped cages.

Wildlife Protection Groups Challenge Great Lakes Wolf Delisting
Five wildlife protection groups filed a complaint in federal District Court challenging the removal of Endangered Species Act protections for gray wolves in the western Great Lakes region. The nonprofit organizations —The Humane Society of the United States, the Center for Biological Diversity, Help Our Wolves Live, Friends of Animals and Their Environment, and Born Free USA — have also asked the court to issue an immediate injunction to halt the killing of wolves pending resolution of the case.

Fla. Attorney General, The HSUS Ask US Supreme Court to Uphold Ban on Depictions of Extreme Animal Cruelty

The HSUS, Broward County Humane Society Take Custody of Puppies From Bankrupt Fla. Pet Store
On Monday, notorious Florida-based puppy retailer Wizard of Claws filed for bankruptcy, resulting in the closure of the store and the seizure by the bankruptcy trustee of the remaining puppies. The HSUS brokered a deal to have all 32 dogs placed for adoption into permanent homes.
