Chimpanzee Care Interns, Project Chimps

Internships are available at Project Chimps in Georgia, which provides lifetime care to former research chimpanzees in a sanctuary on 236-acres of forested land in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Interns (click to view expanded position description) are exposed to the operations of a chimpanzee sanctuary, learn how to care for captive chimpanzees and gain educational experience in chimpanzee behavior and natural history.

Each intern provides direct care to chimpanzees, and develops and completes an independent project.

Some specific internship responsibilities include:

  • Clean enclosures which may include removing waste, raking, sweeping, scrubbing, and climbing ladders up to 8 feet
  • Launder bedding and towels
  • Assist with enrichment and meal preparation
  • Resident interns share in cleaning the intern residence once per week

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Able to meet the requirements outlined in the Essential Capabilities document with or without reasonable accommodation
