Animal Caregiver II

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s largest animal advocacy organization, is seeking an Animal Caregiver II for our South Florida Wildlife Center (SFWC) in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The main responsibility of this position is to provide daily care to resident animals and maintain interior and exterior habitats.

This position will be responsible for:

  • Preparing food/diets and feeding animals throughout workday;
  • Cleaning assigned interior and exterior enclosures;
  • Monitoring assigned animals for any medical or behavioral problems;
  • Carrying out medical treatments or assisting in medical treatments per supervisors or clinic staff;
  • Capturing/moving/transferring animals with the facility as directed;
  • Stocking supplies;
  • Monitoring, supervising, and assigning tasks to Animal Care Tech I, in the absence of the supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma required;
  • Minimum six months to one year of experience in animal care field;
  • Ability to move/lift 50lbs, bend frequently, and stand throughout workday;
  • Good observational and organizational skills;
  • Ability to follow written directions and record observations;
  • Reliable attendance is essential to providing optimum animal care;
  • Ability to communicate with other staff members and supervisors;
  • Ability to identify changes in animal behavior or medical status;
  • Ability to provide oversight to other staff, in the absence of supervisor;
  • Support the mission of the Wildlife Care Center.
