The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s largest animal advocacy organization, is seeking a Dietitian for its Campaigns Department. The main responsibility of this position is to change the purchasing decisions of institutional food service providers to benefit animal welfare. Other duties include, but are not limited to: develop and analyze plant-based recipes and menus for grades K-12 that meet the requirements of the National School Lunch Program; conduct web and live presentations for institutional food service providers and influentials; form strategic partnerships with players in the food industry and inform them on HSUS’ efforts in this arena; persuade institutions and companies to reform their purchasing policies in ways that reduce animals’ suffering by adding more plant-based menu options; write blogs, op-eds, press releases, and other marketing pieces to keep the meat reduction campaign front and center within the food industry. Must be a registered dietitian through the Commission on Dietetic Registration. Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent from an accredited institution in nutrition and/or dietetics, with one to three years of experience in commercial food service operations and school nutrition programs preferred. This role requires willingness and ability to travel, knowledge and confidence to single-handily address staff and executives at major institutions, along with the ability to give presentations to large audiences. Other important skills include: knowledge about factory farming and a commitment to the goals of the organization to improve farm animal welfare.
