Equine Trainer, Doris Day Equine Center
The Humane Society of the United States (The HSUS), the nation’s largest animal advocacy organization, is seeking an Equine Trainer for its Doris Day Equine Center.
This position requires being responsible for working with rescued horses, from initial physical rehabilitation to training and eventual placement of adoptable horses.
Other duties include, but are not limited to: providing evaluations and natural horsemanship training to at all stages of equine development; in-taking animals and helping determine priority for triage and training; providing routine updates to assist in maintaining animal database from intake to adoption; teaching general horsemanship skills such as ground skills, under saddle training, horse care, tack care, etc.; training and helping to oversee and manage volunteer and intern programs; working with veterinary staff to address medical needs of animals; overseeing the daily tasks of center care staff as required; working with adopters and transfer partners to insure appropriate match with adoptable animals.
We are seeking a candidate with a high school diploma or equivalent, as well as extensive experience and the ability to train horses using Natural Horsemanship techniques. Previous hands-on equine management and management/supervisory experience are highly desired. The ability to train horses using Natural Horsemanship techniques is also desired. Candidate must be able to work with the public in retail or adoption arena. This position requires the ability to move/lift items up to 75 pounds.
