Accounts Payable Specialist, Accounting

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s largest animal advocacy organization, is seeking an experienced Accounts Payable Specialist for its Accounting Department.  The main responsibility of this position is to ensure all bills are processed and paid in a timely manner and are properly recorded in the general ledger.  Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to: scanning, routing and attaching documents to vendor records; auditing all invoices and check requests for vendors; preparing checks for signature and distribution; responding to inquiries from employees and vendors concerning status of payments; processing invoices for payments; batch review and preparing journal entries as needed.  Overtime is expected during month end close, year end and audit periods.  Some college experience in accounting or related field and prior experience in accounting preferred.  Excellent communication and organizational skills; knowledge of Great Plains is a plus.  Salary is commensurate based on experience.
