Blog Editor, Public Relations
The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s largest animal advocacy organization, is seeking a Blog Editor for its Public Relations Department. The main responsibility of this position is to apply exemplary editing skills to support a creative, high quality and informative daily blog, research and work with other departments to develop blog topics and collect content, work with external blogs to fulfill guest blog opportunities, and work with the Senior Reputation Manager to ensure timely and accurate responses to online comments and questions posted on the blog and social media accounts. The Blog Editor also establishes goals for online media outreach and, using available online tools, provides periodic reports on success. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in journalism, communications, or other relevant field, with a minimum of two years professional work experience preferably involving online media highly desired. Strong writing and editing skills, a demonstrated understanding of blogs and other online media, and an interest in animal protection issues is essential. A proven track record of securing coverage in online outlets and managing online outreach campaigns is preferred. This position also requires availability during non-traditional business hours for breaking news.
