Federal Legislative Specialist, Federal Affairs

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s largest animal advocacy organization, is seeking a Federal Legislative Specialist for its Federal Affairs Department.  The main responsibility of this position is to promote the legislative goals of the HSUS to Congressional offices, committees, and advocacy agencies. Other duties include, but are not limited to: acting as a primary contact for congressional offices on behalf of The HSUS; determining and developing coalitions with a variety of political organizations and associations where common interests intersect; liaising with state, program and regulatory affairs staff on legislative action and regulatory campaigns; assisting with monitoring Hill outreach, including coordinating whip counts and providing regular updates.  At least five years’ federal legislative office experience or a law degree and three years’ experience  desired.  Excellent knowledge of federal legislative processes, appropriations processes, committee work and strong written and verbal communication skills are strongly preferred. The salary range for this position is from the mid $50’s to the low $60’s.
