Federal Regulatory Specialist (Junior), Federal Affairs
The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s largest animal advocacy organization, is seeking a Federal Regulatory Specialist (Junior) for its Federal Affairs section. The main responsibility of this position is to encourage the development and enforcement of rules at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Department of Interior (DOI) involving farm animals and wildlife. Other duties include, but are not limited to: cultivating relationships with officials at USDA and DOI; supporting organizational work on regulations by drafting comments, FOIA requests, and other documents to submit to the agencies; providing guidance on regulatory impacts of new federal laws under USDA and DOI’s authority; working in coordination with The HSUS’ public relations department to review press releases, op-eds, and other media materials. A law degree or equivalent is required, along with an understanding of the regulatory process, and excellent verbal and written communication skills. Prior experience working with federal agencies to develop and enforce regulations, and the ability to digest complex scientific data are strongly preferred.
