Law Clerk (PT), Office of General Counsel
The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s largest animal advocacy organization, is seeking a part-time Law Clerk for its Office of General Council. The main responsibility of this position is to assist General Counsel in providing legal advice and assistance to The HSUS and affiliated organizations. Other duties include, but are not limited to: conduct legal research and draft legal memoranda and guidance documents for use by OGC in various areas of the law; prepare legal instruments such as contracts, licenses, assignments, releases and waivers, and basic corporate filings; provide support to General Counsel and outside counsel in preparing for and conducting investigations, administrative functions, and litigation. Juris Doctorate or equivalent experience, membership in District of Columbia Bar (and/or other state bar), and one to three years of experience in a General Council office is highly desired. Understanding of lobbying regulations and federal, state, and local laws as they apply to a non-profit is preferred. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
