Policy Implementation-Deputy Manager, Puppy Mills Campaign

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s largest animal advocacy organization, is seeking a Policy Implementation-Deputy Manager for its Puppy Mills Campaign.  The main responsibility of this position is to work with the state government agencies responsible for enforcing state laws regulating commercial dog breeders. Other duties include, but are not limited to: work with the campaign’s public policy manager to gather support from government agencies for pending and planning state dog breeding legislation; develop relationships with state and third-party program inspectors, local animal control, shelters and rescue organizations, and animal welfare advocates in order to implement strategies for proper enforcement; train state inspectors to recognize violations of the state dog breeding laws. A Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent, along with one to three years of experience working with law enforcement, government agencies and/or animal welfare organizations is highly desired. Knowledge of puppy mill dog handling and care issues and strong written and verbal communication skills strongly preferred.The salary range for this position is from the low to the mid $40’s.
