Research Assistant, Animal Research Issues
The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s largest animal advocacy organization, is seeking a Research Assistant for its Animal Research Issues Department. The main responsibility of this position is to provide research, writing, and administrative support to the department. Other duties include, but are not limited to: gather and process information about use of animals in research and use of animals by the Department of Defense, National Institutes of Health and universities/medical centers; assist with outreach efforts to the public, policymakers and regulator, such as action alerts, social media posts, web content; draft text (including press release, letters), tables, figures and slides for manuscripts, reports and public education materials; help with administrative work for the department; coordinate department reports (such as an executive report) and assist with scheduling department meetings. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in related field along with one to three years’ experience highly desired. Candidate must be detail-oriented, able to conduct thorough internet research, and possess excellent writing and interpersonal skills. Attention to detail, ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) is essential. Commitment to animal protection including basic knowledge and comprehension of current issues preferred.
