Internal Communications Specialist

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s largest animal advocacy organization, is seeking an Internal Communications Specialist. The individual will work closely with senior staff and develop and implement timely and engaging internal communication strategies to inform and educate employees about organizational developments.

This position will be responsible for:

  • Developing and distributing internal communications using various methods and technology platforms, including emails, intranet, reports, memos, presentations, etc. in order to inform and enhance the HSUS employee experience;
  • Collaborating with representatives of each departments to facilitate development of communication strategies and plans which may cover all areas and functions of the organization;
  • Partnering with policy-making departments to ensure staff are informed of updates;
  • Recommending and establishing processes, protocols, and templates for internal communication tools and materials;
  • Providing assessments, direction, and guidance to help standardize communications throughout the organization and providing ongoing assessment of appropriateness;
  • Maintaining a working knowledge of current and emerging technologies and other communication strategies and recommending changes/improvements and leveraging this information to improve employee communication;
  • Working with human resources department on communications and publications, trainings and messaging to staff that motivate a productive, effective and an engaged workplace; will also convey the organization’s policies, strategies, and performance results;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, English or related field, or equivalent experience required;
  • Minimum of five or more years’ experience developing, coordinating, writing, editing, and executing communications for internal or external audiences is required; experience with mission-focused and web-based communications is preferred;
  • Must have experience creating and delivering communications to large groups and groups located in various geographic locations;
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral; must have ability to translate information into meaningful, understandable context and message, regardless of format;
  • Superior organizational, problem-solving and time management skills;
  • Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills, along with ability to build consensus and ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams;
  • Candidate must also demonstrate creativity and self-motivation in the execution and completion of assigned accountabilities.
