Resource Assistant

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s largest animal advocacy organization, is seeking a Resource Assistant for our South Florida Wildlife Center (SFWC) in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The main responsibility of this position is to perform all Resource Center related activities.

This position will be responsible for:

  • Receiving and admitting animals to SFWC;
  • Performing accurate data entry and maintenance of databases to maintain accurate patient count and disposition as well as generating reports;
  • Providing public education related to the admissions process and proper courses of action for rescued/injured animals;
  • Determining priority of triage and communicate observations of rescues/injured animal to animal care personnel;
  • Determining prioritization of rescue requests and dispatching emergency response vehicle(s);
  • Handling public requests to help organize/participate in community outreach events and accepting donations from the public;
  • Mentoring interns/externs and volunteers within established parameters;
  • Conducting tours of the facility, as requested;
  • Assisting with rescue calls and other departments, as needed;

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma required and some college experience desirable;
  • Animal handling experience preferred;
  • Proficient verbal and written skills;
  • Organizational skills with good attention to detail and the ability to multi-task;
  • Experience and proficiency in customer service;
  • Proficiency in data entry;
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule;
  • Punctuality and reliability;
  • Familiarity with state and federal laws pertaining to wildlife;
  • Familiarity with geographic community helpful;
  • Knowledge of other community organizations for referral;
  • Ability to identify wildlife, exotic and domestic animal species helpful;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of donor and constituent information, personnel issues and other sensitive information;
  • Experience handling money in a retail environment desirable.
