Manager of Bequests, Philanthropy
The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s largest animal advocacy organization, is seeking a Manager of Bequests for its Philanthropy Department. The main responsibility of this position is to cultivate, solicit and steward present supporters and new donor prospects who are interested in including HSUS or one of its affiliates in their will, trust, or estate plan. Donor communication will be by phone, mail, or email along with a designated number of donor visits. Responsibilities also involve achieving set fundraising targets which complement the overall planned gifts goal in the philanthropy department. Other duties include, but are not limited to: create and execute cultivation, solicitation and stewardship plans for new bequests prospects; solicit signed Letters of Intent commitments; steward our Legacy supporters who have made planned gift commitments; escalate complex bequest requests to the Senior Director of Planned Gifts. Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent with at least three years of experience in an estate law profession, financial services background or a nonprofit estate planning program preferred. Strong knowledge of planned giving strategies and charitable planning techniques highly desired. Knowledge of Target Analytics, PG Calc or other relational database systems, along with knowledge of Microsoft Office, word excel and PowerPoint is essential. Other important skills include: demonstrated ability to work independently, under pressure and on a deadline; public speaking experience; strong relationship building skills.
