Program Assistant, Companion Animals
The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s largest animal advocacy organization, is seeking a Program Assistant for its Companion Animals department. The main responsibility of this position is to provide program support to programs and initiatives for the Companion Animals department. Other duties include, but are not limited to: provide research, writing, coordination, outreach, etc. on core issue areas such as keeping pets in homes, humanely managing cats, and companion animals legislation and policy; compile monthly reports for programs; work closely with the Director of Pet Protection and Policy in receiving and tracking state and local legislative issues, and in coordinating with the State Affairs department and other internal players; handle incoming correspondence (i.e. phone calls, emails, and some written correspondence) related to general Companion Animal issues.
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field preferred, along with one to three years of related experience. Other important skills include: outstanding customer service skills; ability and desire to patiently help people are essential; proficiency with Microsoft Office programs and knowledge of office systems, procedures, and equipment; familiarity with the internet.
