Public Policy Coordinator-Farm Animal Protection, Campaigns
The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s largest animal advocacy organization, is seeking a Public Policy Coordinator for its Farm Animal Protection section. The main responsibility of this position is to achieve public policy goals consistent with the mission and goals of the organization by helping create and manage strategic coalitions and relationships with lawmakers, policy makers, animal advocates and other stakeholders on behalf of farm animals. Other duties include, but are not limited to: lobby elected officials and their offices; collaborate with State Directors to develop strategies and tactics to advance state legislative and policy priorities; build public support for legislative and policy priorities through grassroots engagement and the media; develop and manage the creation of campaign materials; data collection and database management; assist the Public Policy Manager in the supervision of Interns, Fellows, and Externs; draft online content and communications for both internal and external distribution. Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline or equivalent; Master’s degree or Juris Doctor degree is highly desired. Knowledge of farm animal protection, excellent computer skills and exceptional written and verbal communication skills strongly preferred. Candidates must also be exceptionally professional, exhibit a high level of diplomacy, build rapport easily, and be able to work independently with minimal supervision. Candidate will be required to often work evenings, weekends and overtime hours. Moderate to extensive travel is required.
