Veterinary Technician (PT), South Florida Wildlife Center
The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s largest animal advocacy organization, is seeking a part-time Veterinary Technician for its South Florida Wildlife Center. The main responsibility of this position is to assist veterinary staff in health/medical/surgical care and treatment of animals. Other duties include, but are not limited to: assist in triage of incoming animals and perform euthanasia under the direction of staff veterinarians; perform daily database entry in an accurate and timely manner; write and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) pertaining to technician duties; prepare medications and medicate animals under the direction of staff veterinarians and give direction to Animal Care, Nursery and Release Staff; assist and prepare for surgical procedures and take radiographic images; order medical supplies and assure their availability in the treatment room; monitor animals undergoing treatment and identify changes in status. High School Diploma or equivalent with six months to one years’ experience highly desired. Other certification in Veterinary Technology is a plus. Experience in dealing with exotics or wildlife medicine is preferred. Ability to work flexible schedule; meet deadlines; organized; collaborative; good observational skills is essential.
