Nominees

They’re already in line for Academy Awards®, but now the popular feature film Up and the critically acclaimed documentary films The Cove and Food, Inc. are in the running for the animal protection movement’s most coveted accolade—a Genesis Award!

Nominated with 46 other major news and entertainment media works, these high profile, award-winning films are a sure sign that animal issues are big with filmmakers.

“This is truly a benchmark year for animal protection-themed films garnering Academy Award recognition,” said Beverly Kaskey, senior director of the Hollywood office of The HSUS and executive producer of the annual Genesis Awards.  “The news and entertainment media in general have excelled this year at covering a wide range of animal issues, but a documentary film like The Cove is proof that even a tough animal issue like Japan’s dolphin slaughter can resonate with audiences when it’s at the heart of thrilling, cinematic storytelling.”
