Brian Shapiro

As New York state director for The HSUS, Brian Shapiro brings 25 years of personal and public animal advocacy experience to The HSUS.

He served for more than a decade as an elected representative and legislator in Ulster County, New York.

He also served as the executive director of the Ulster County SPCA, where he bolstered a highly successful humane law division, helped increase adoptions, and expanded the shelter's spay/neuter program.

Shapiro has also served as chair of the Ulster County Environmental Committee, chair of the Ulster County Board of Ethics, and vice chair of the Ulster County Soil and Water Conservation District.

Shapiro leads The HSUS's animal welfare efforts throughout the Empire State and is responsible for assisting animal shelters, working alongside local law enforcement agencies, and building statewide support for animal protection.
