The HSUS's Nebraska state director, Jocelyn Nickerson, is an instrument-rated private pilot who was a communications specialist for NASA before transitioning into the animal welfare movement as development officer for the Animal Legal Defense Fund.
She founded Nebraska Pomeranian Rescue in 2001 and continues her animal protection work to improve animal welfare legislation and strengthen anti-cruelty laws in her state.
Jocelyn graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha with a bachelor's degree in aviation and a master's degree in public administration.
