Kathleen Summers

Kathleen Summers has worked with The HSUS's Stop Puppy Mills campaign since 2006 and is currently Director of Outreach and Research for the campaign.

During her years at The HSUS she has participated in every aspect of the campaign—from building its research base, to assisting in investigations and rescues, to testifying before state legislatures in support of stronger laws.

Prior to working with The HSUS, Kathleen was the editor of several newsletters on canine welfare topics and was vice president of The Partnership for Animal Welfare (PAW), Inc., a homeless-animal placement organization based in Greenbelt, Md.

Summers has been interviewed for puppy mill articles for O, The Oprah Magazine; Newsweek; Animal Sheltering magazine, and DogFancy, as well as for books like "Defending the Defenseless" and "Animal Impact, Secrets Proven to Achieve Results and Move the World."

Summers and her rescued puppy mill dog, Brandy, appeared briefly in "Madonna of the Mills," a documentary about puppy mills that aired on HBO in 2011 and 2012.

She is a graduate of The American University and Carnegie Mellon University.
