Ralph Hawthorne, the Atlanta manager of The HSUS's Pets for Life program, has been with The HSUS for four years, starting as a community organizer for the End Dogfighting Atlanta campaign (now incorporated into Pets for Life). He has broadened his scope to disseminating a variety of essential animal care information and services to under-served communities in Atlanta.
Hawthorne has had an extensive career in community and peace advocacy as well as youth outreach. He was a project director with CeaseFire of Rockford, Ill. (a program of the Chicago Project for Violence Prevention), whose mission is to reduce shootings and killings in inner-city neighborhoods.
Prior to joining The HSUS, Hawthorne was the executive director of Let's Talk It Out, a city-wide anti-violence and educational program in Rockford.
Hawthorne studied applied science at Rock Valley College and theology and faith at both Rock River Christian College and C.H. Mason Bible College. An ordained minister, he served as associate minister at St. Paul Church of God in Christ in Rockford for 10 years.
Hawthorne resides in Atlanta with his family and his beloved pit bull, Sasha.
