Giving Animal Issues a Starring Role in Hollywood
The Humane Society of the United States is the only animal protection organization with a Hollywood office devoted to encouraging and honoring the influential news and entertainment media. Working with compassionate celebrities, writers, filmmakers and producers, we strive to activate the power of the media in our quest for a humane society. Through the annual Genesis Awards recognized as the nation's premier consciousness raiser of animal issues, and our Animal Content in Entertainment (ACE) program, we help put animal protection concerns in the Hollywood picture. Check out our Humane Hollywood channel of celebrity videos here. Sign up to receive email alerts and e-newsletters from the Hollywood office here.
Access Humane
Hollywood is going humane! Whether it's happening on the big or small screen with positive messaging about animal issues, or it's another famous name joining the ranks of compassionate celebrities, Hollywood is getting active on behalf of animals. Here's a look at some of the latest news from Humane Hollywood.
Sparks Ignites Celeb Support for Yes on Prop 2
For actor, rock musician and comedian Hal Sparks, the conditions endured by millions of farm animals are no laughing matter. That's why Hal, the star of VHI's "I Love the 80s," is speaking out in support of Yes on Prop 2.
Paid for by Californians for Humane Farms (sponsored by The HSUS, Farm Sanctuary and other animal protection groups, family farmers, veterinarians and public health professionals), this modest, history-making measure, which will appear on the November 4th ballot, will stop Californian's factory farms from cramming animals into cages so small they can't stand up, turn around or stretch their limbs.
As Hal points out in this video, "Animals deserve to be treated humanely, even if they are raised for food."
Thanks, Hal. We couldn't agree more!

America's favorite tough guy would rather shoot a film than an animal. The good» The bad» The ugly»
Shining at SilverDocs
The HSUS took another step in bringing advocacy and the media together at the recent SilverDocs Documentary Festival. Filmmaker Mike Webber took home our $25,000 ACE feature documentary grant for The Elephant in the Living Room, a compelling look at the dangers of exotic pet work of a police officer and one man exotic animal rescuer. Our presence at SilverDocs was anchored by HSUS's sponsorship of a panel discussion on social advocacy in the media, in which our very own Executive V.P. Michael Markarian participated.
