As Sandy Approaches, the Cape Wildlife Center Battens Down Hatches
As Hurricane Sandy heads north, the Cape Wildlife Center in Barnstable, Mass., operated by The Humane Society of the United States and The Fund for Animals, is safeguarding the wildlife rehabilitation hospital to protect the facility and its wild patients against potential high winds, heavy rainfall and flooding during what AccuWeather is saying is an “extremely rare and dangerous storm.”

Goldfinch Flies Again
Unable to fly and suffering a fractured leg, the American goldfinch brought into the Cape Wildlife Center is just one of 49 critically injured birds brought into the center this year after hitting a wall or window.

Trio of American Mink Orphans Learn Social, Survival Skills
In early June, a Massachusetts Audubon Society staff member dropped off three infant mink orphans, each weighing less than seven ounces. A neighbor had seen the minks' mother hit by a car and heard the frightened orphans crying nearby.

Screech Owl Gets the Chance to Soar Again
A Plymouth County, Mass., woman spotted a tiny Eastern screech owl heavy entangled in a fishing line and a fish hook. She cut him free and brought him to the Cape Wildlife Center for rehab.

American Crow Flies Free for Fourth of July
When the American crow first arrived at the Cape Wildlife Center in late April, shot through his wing, things looked very grave. With careful care and rehabilitation, he was released two months later, just in time for Independence Day.
