Pets for Life NYC
Helping pets in The Big Apple

What the program does
Most problems that lead to the surrender of pets are solvable. PFLNYC provides hands-on assistance and alternatives to clients who are considering relinquishing their pets because of problems such as life crises (including domestic violence, eviction, foreclosure, hospitalization, and house fires), pet behavioral issues, allergies, landlord-tenant disputes, pet illness, and lack of pet care knowledge.
If you know someone in the New York City area who needs assistance caring for or keeping their pets, call the Pets for Life NYC hotline at 917-468-2938.
PFLNYC is committed to working through each client's problems in an effort to keep families and their animals together by offering a full spectrum of support and services including:
- Reduced-cost boarding services for pets of people in crisis*
- Temporary foster care for pets of people in crisis
- Free and low-cost behavioral training for dogs and cats*
- Reduced-cost veterinary services for those who qualify*
- Free and low-cost spay neuter information
- Pet-related landlord-tenant information
- Allergy and shedding solutions
- Donations of pet food and supplies to those in need*
- General counseling and education for people with pet-related concerns
*clients must qualify for certain free or subsidized services
PFLNYC also provides support and information to clients about keeping or finding homes for stray animals they have found instead of surrendering them to the shelter.
Guidance and services are offered to clients seven days a week, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., through the PFLNYC Hotline (917-468-2938) and directly at Animal Care & Control of NYC shelters.

PFLNYC educates people that animals are not disposable and reinforces the concept of keeping one's pet for life. PFLNYC challenges the traditional role of the animal shelter as just a place to either surrender or adopt animals. By introducing education and alternatives to surrender, animal shelters can be viewed as a resource for keeping families and their pets together.
PFLNYC serves the five boroughs of New York City and the surrounding areas. If you know someone in the New York City area who needs assistance caring for or keeping their pets, call the Pets for Life NYC hotline at 917-468-2938.
