The HSUS Helps Rescue 52 Dogs from Texas Puppy Mill
The HSUS’ Animal Rescue Team was called in by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office to assist in the rescue of 52 dogs from a Giddings, Texas, property. The sheriff's office and veterinarians from Austin Animal Services inspected the property and found dogs living in deplorable conditions and suffering from various injuries and illnesses.

Animal Advocates Lobby Michigan Lawmakers on Animal Protection Legislation
During the 2012 Michigan Humane Lobby Day, more than 75 citizens from across Michigan met with lawmakers at the Capitol and urged them to pass legislation to ban the euthanasia of shelter animals by gas chamber, increase protections for dogs at large scale breeding operations, and to increase protections for consumers who purchase sick animals from pet stores and puppy mills.

Animal Protection Organizations Submit a Rulemaking Petition to Protect Dogs in Puppy Mills
During Humane Lobby Day 2012, citizens from across Colorado met with lawmakers at the Capitol and urged them to support a rulemaking petition for a rule change that would require a solid resting surface for dogs housed in wire-bottom cages in commercial dog breeding facilities licensed by the state.

The HSUS Applauds Maryland General Assembly for Legislative Advances
The Maryland General Assembly adjourned on Monday after passing three meaningful laws to protect animals and considering several other important measures. Lawmakers approved bills to protect consumers who purchase sick puppies from pet stores, to strengthen the Department of Natural Resources’ ability to crack down on illegal poaching, and to extend the task force established in 2011 to study spay and neuter funding for the state.
