Animal Advocates Lobby Connecticut Lawmakers to Support Animal Welfare Legislation
)--Connecticut residents participating in Humane Lobby Day met with lawmakers to advocate for several bills that would improve the welfare of animals in the state. Participants lobbied in support of H.B. 6317, which ban the inhumane confinement of breeding pigs in gestation crates, and H.B. 5027, which requires minimum standards of care for dogs in large-scale puppy mills and prevents the sale of dogs from breeding operations that do not meet those standards.

A bipartisan group of Senators has introduced a bill that would outlaw spectators’ willful attendance at organized animal fights and impose additional penalties for bringing a minor to an animal fight. U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., Mark Kirk, R-Ill., Maria Cantwell, D-Wa., and David Vitter R-La., have introduced S. 666, the Animal Fighting Spectator Prohibition Act.
