The HSUS Applauds Maryland General Assembly for Legislative Advances
The Maryland General Assembly adjourned on Monday after passing three meaningful laws to protect animals and considering several other important measures. Lawmakers approved bills to protect consumers who purchase sick puppies from pet stores, to strengthen the Department of Natural Resources’ ability to crack down on illegal poaching, and to extend the task force established in 2011 to study spay and neuter funding for the state.

Oregon Legislature Adjourns with Important Gains for Animal Welfare
As the Oregon legislature adjourns its 2011 session, The HSUS applauded significant victories, with lawmakers passing animal protection bills on a wide range of issues. Among the most important gains for Oregon animals are new laws to protect pets in domestic violence cases; ban the possession, sale and distribution of shark fins; and improve the process to care for animals who are the victims of criminal abuse and neglect.
