The stunning and iconic African lion is headed for extinction if nothing changes fast. Wild populations have dwindled by almost 50 percent in the last 30 years, and The HSUS is working to secure greater protection for these cats from hunters and the wildlife trade. We also work to keep lions out of the entertainment industry, where they usually suffer needlessly. Circus performers may call themselves “lion tamers,” but lions can’t—and shouldn’t—be tamed.
Please Help Big Cats
In many states, unqualified people can easily purchase and breed lions and other big cats, keeping them in bad conditions and endangering the public. The Big Cats and Public Safety Protection Act would prohibit their private ownership and breeding.
