Volunteer with our Wildlife Protection Department

The Wildlife Protection volunteer will gain hands on experience working with a dedicated team to combat the most egregious treatment and abuse confronting wild animals – both in the wild and in captivity. Our team works to help our nation’s wildlife whether they are native carnivores, endangered and threatened species, or our urban wild neighbors. The volunteer will have the opportunity to support lasting change for wildlife throughout the U.S.

We are looking for a volunteer (click to view expanded position description) to provide research, writing, grassroots support and administrative support.

Work can be done from home or in our Gaithersburg, Md., office during the work week, preferably Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays between 10 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. (EST).

Becoming a volunteer

Requirements for our Volunteers:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Remote volunteer must have access to a telephone, computer with Microsoft Excel, and access to the Internet; calls are non-reimbursable
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, and able to effectively use online search tools
  • Willingness to call and email wildlife agency and legislative staff
  • Able to work well independently

Commitment Policy:

  • Volunteer must commit to work approximately three hours per week for three months.


  • Volunteer must successfully complete a criminal background check.
  • We do not accept any court ordered community service.

  • Before becoming an official volunteer, you must pass the background check, sign a volunteer agreement, and sign a waiver/release of liability.
