Poll Shows Utah Voters Strongly Favor Tougher Penalties for Illegal Cockfighting by Nearly 5-to-1 Margin
A strong majority of Utah voters statewide want tougher penalties for cockfighting, with 70 percent in favor of a bill making cockfighting a felony crime, and only 15 percent opposed.

Humane Lobby Day is sponsored by The Humane Society of the United States and the ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®).

Pennsylvania House of Representatives Passes Legislation to Reduce Cost of Care for Rescued Animals
The Humane Society of the United States applauds the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for passing House Bill 82, to require alleged animal abusers to pay reasonable costs to care for their animals after seizure. The vote was 163-84.

Bipartisan Legislation Introduced in Congress to Crack Down on Animal Fighting Spectators
The Humane Society of the United States applauds U.S. Reps. Tom Marino, R-Pa., James McGovern, D-Mass., John Campbell, R-Calif., and Jim Moran, D-Va., for introducing H.R. 366, the Animal Fighting Spectator Prohibition Act, a bill that would outlaw spectators’ willful attendance at organized animal fights and impose additional penalties for bringing a minor.

The HSUS Releases Annual Ranking of State Animal Protection Laws
The Humane Society of the United States, the nation’s largest animal protection organization, has released its fourth annual “Humane State Ranking” report, a comprehensive analysis of animal protection laws in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. The HSUS graded states on the strength of a wide range of animal protection laws, including public policies dealing with animal cruelty and fighting, pets, wildlife, equines, animals in research, and farm animals.
