Young philanthropists of Humane Generation/Friends of Finn drive change for animals—and meet a few, too
Since The HSUS started Friends of Finn (named for Amanda Hearst’s dog, who came from a puppy mill) in 2010, the New York-based committee now known as Humane Generation/Friends of Finn has raised more than $2.3 million for the HSUS Puppy Mills Campaign.

A new investigation by The Humane Society of the United States reveals that several pet stores in Palm Beach County, Florida, violated local laws designed to prevent their buying from breeders with animal welfare violations, while other stores were apparently violating laws that require the disclosure of certain information to potential buyers.

After an outpouring of anger and expressions of mistrust about the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s abrupt decision to delete from its website inspection reports on some 9,000 licensed and registered facilities that use animals -- including commercial dog breeding operators, roadside zoos, animal research labs, and other operations regulated under the federal Animal Welfare Act and Horse Protection Act, such as Tennessee walking horse show participants -- today the USDA reposted a batch of documents.

The Humane Society of the United States was called in by the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office to assist in the rescue of nearly 130 animals from a suspected puppy mill in Cabarrus County, North Carolina.

Authorities rescued 53 dogs from a suspected puppy mill in Libby, Montana, after discovering the dogs living in deplorable conditions and suffering from various medical issues. They also rescued six donkeys who appeared to be extremely thin and 60 parakeets.

Meet a few of the 250 dogs Humane Society International and the Humane Society of the United States rescued from a large South Korean dog meat farm this year. The rescue is part of an ongoing effort to end the dog meat trade in South Korea, the only known country in Asia that farms dogs for human consumption.
