"Natural." "Cage-free." "Vegetarian-fed." There's a dizzying array of labels on meat, dairy, and egg packaging—enough to confuse any concerned consumer. Some of them do indeed indicate higher-welfare conditions for animals, but others are meaningless or downright misleading.
