World Spay Day 2013 Pet Pageant Winners Announced
A panel of celebrity judges chose Eddie, a dog from Front Royal, Va. who just loves to play fetch no matter what time of day, or night, to win the Judged prize in the World Spay Day 2013 Pet Pageant. With more than 5,000 votes, Titus, a rescued dog from Islip, N.Y. who loves to give kisses, took the Mister World Spay Day 2013 Popular Pet prize.

Maryland Votes For Animals and The HSUS Celebrate Landmark Spay/Neuter Program
Maryland Votes for Animals and The Humane Society of the United States applauded the Maryland Senate and House for passing the spay/neuter bill, introduced by Sen. Joanne Benson, D-Prince George’s County, and Del. Barbara Frush, D-Anne Arundel and Prince George’s counties, to establish a statewide fund to support spay/neuter services through targeted community grants.

The Humane Society of the United States to Expand Spay/Neuter Services in Under-served Communities during February
In celebration of World Spay Day, and thanks to a $40,000 grant from the Doris Day Animal Foundation, The Humane Society of the United States’ Pets for Life program will work with local partners to provide free pet spay/neuter services in under-served communities throughout February.

The HSUS and Maryland Votes for Animals applaud the introduction of S.B. 820/H.B. 767 to establish a spay/neuter fund in Maryland to provide grants for community spay/neuter programs and vouchers for Maryland residents who otherwise could not afford spay/neuter services.

HSI and His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama Call for Kindness to Animals, Marking the Launch of New Affiliate Organization in India
Humane Society International announced the official launch of its office in India at an event in Mumbai featuring His Holiness the Dalai Lama, who spoke movingly about compassion for animals and the responsibility that all of us have to act with intentionality in protecting them from human-caused cruelty.
