Animal Advocates Gather in Sacramento to Lobby for Animal Protection
More than 200 Californians will gather in Sacramento Wednesday as part of Humane Lobby Day, an annual advocacy event co-sponsored by The Humane Society of the United States and the ASPCA®. Animal advocates from across California will meet with lawmakers to urge them to support legislation to protect sharks, combat illegal animal fighting, and to prevent animal abuse and neglect.

Maryland General Assembly Adjourns with Major Victories for Animals
The HSUS applauds Maryland lawmakers for passing a slate of major animal protection measures before adjourning Monday. The General Assembly passed bills to address the issue of puppy mills, the importance of spay and neuter programs, to crack down on animal abuse and to protect pets in domestic violence situations.

The HSUS and Arizona Law Enforcement Rescue More Than 250 Animals from Alleged Cruelty
The HSUS assisted the Apache County Sheriff’s Department in the rescue of approximately 200 dogs, 50 cats and several chickens, ducks and pigs who were found living in deplorable conditions in Witch Wells, Arizona.

Animal Advocates Ask Nevada Lawmakers to Protect Animals at Humane Lobby Day 2011 in Carson City
Nevada animal advocates are meeting with state lawmakers in Carson City today to lobby for better animal welfare laws to protect their pets, wild horses and other wildlife throughout the state. The HSUS and Humane Society Legislative Fund are sponsoring Nevada Humane Lobby Day 2011.

More Than 200 Animals Rescued from Alleged Cruelty in Alabama
The HSUS assisted the Houston County Sheriff’s Department with the rescue orf more than 200 dogs and cats who were found living in deplorable conditions in Gordon, Ala. The animals were removed from Dirty Sally’s Pet Pals, a non-profit organization that claims to offer animals for adoption.

Animal Advocates Lobby Maryland Lawmakers for Animal Welfare Legislation
The HSUS and Maryland Votes for Animals co-hosted the fourth-annual Maryland Humane Lobby Day at the state capitol in Annapolis. At the event, citizen advocates lobbied their legislators to prevent convicted animal abusers from owning animals for a specified time, promote funding of Maryland spay/neuter programs, and require licensing of large-scale commercial dog breeders.

Reward Offered in Deaths of Nearly 50 Animals Found Dumped in Miss.
The HSUS is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information in the case of nearly 50 animals found dead near Baldwyn, Miss. Prentiss County Sheriff’s Office deputies found the animal carcasses--mostly dogs and a few cats--that were apparently tossed from a bridge into a creek below.

The HSUS Rescues Nearly 100 Dogs from Tenn. Puppy Mill
The HSUS was called in by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department to lead the rescue of 97 dogs and one cat from a Lewisburg, Tenn. property. The dogs were being housed in unsanitary conditions and lacked proper socialization and medical care.
