    Nearly 50 Dogs Rescued from Suspected Faison, N.C. Puppy Mill

    More than 50 dogs were rescued from a suspected Duplin County, N.C., puppy mill. Duplin County Animal Control became concerned about the welfare of the dogs after they responded to a complaint and found the animals living in filth and suffering from a lack of basic care. The Humane Society of the United States, Duplin County Animal Shelter, Pet Friends of Duplin County and the SPCA of Wake County assisted with the rescue and removal of the dogs.

    Additional Arrest, Dogs Seized in Alabama Dogfighting Investigation

    As part of a continued crack down on dogfighting activity in several southeastern states, the Federal Bureau of Investigations arrested yesterday David Bernard Grace of Dothan, Ala. Grace is the 14th suspect to be arrested in an ongoing multi-state dogfighting investigation that spans Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi and Texas. Prior to the arrest, The Humane Society of the United States assisted authorities with seizing 37 dogs and dogfighting paraphernalia from properties in Dothan and Abbeville, Ala., associated with Grace.

    The Pender County, N.C., Sheriff's Department called in The HSUS, SPCA of Wake County, Guilford County Animal Shelter, and North Carolina Veterinary Medical Association to rescue 104 dogs from a squalid puppy mill.
