Val Gordon, a Duchess Sanctuary volunteer, recently took a moment to recall the experience of working on the ranch for a day. Here's what she had to say:

The Duchess Sanctuary is a place of refuge with rolling pastures that seem to go on forever. The horses that reside here are beautiful and deserve this special place to live out the rest of their lives.

Jennifer [Kunz, the ranch manager] and her team are knowledgeable and loving caretakers that work hard and are devoted to these beautiful animals. It is a wonderful place that wouldn't be possible without the dedication of the team and volunteers.

I worked there as a volunteer and had never brushed a horse. The horses stood there and loved the attention, and believe me, they totally deserve it. I did not think I would enjoy my day as a volunteer as much as I did.  But I would recommend this experience to anyone.

I loved it, and know anyone that comes out to the Duchess Sanctuary would also walk away with a different feeling about these special animals.
