The HSUS
The United Nations declared 2011–12 The International Year of the Bat. Visit batcon.org for more information about celebrations and bat conservation initiatives around the globe. While there, check out the resources for educators and the KidzCave for worksheets, puzzles, videos, and more about these fascinating mammals.
Class activity
Can students think of an animal who needs our help for some reason? Perhaps the animal is one hardly anyone likes. Maybe the animal is hunted or trapped or endangered. Have students pretend that they have written a book about the animal and now must design the book cover. The front should have an attractive cover and title, with the back featuring positive reviews and so on. The inside front flap should summarize why the book was written and include information about the animal. The inside back flap should tell about the author.
Worksheets and puzzle pages
