Take Your Dog to Work Day® 2010

Dogs in the workplace are a perk for people and pooches

  • Charley always has a smile and a wagging tail for everyone at the office, where he's been a regular since employee Julia Worth adopted him. Ellen Pascale/The HSUS

  • Pepper, staffer Heather Sullivan's dog, likes to spend much of the workday in her favorite chair. Michelle Riley/The HSUS

  • Hobbes, a pit bull mix adopted by HSUS's Pepper Ballard, loves coming to work to socialize and nap. Pepper Ballard/The HSUS

  • Rosa was rescued from a Mississippi hoarding case by The HSUS animal rescue team. Now she enjoys a cushy bed in staffer Adam Parascandola's workspace. Michelle Riley/The HSUS

  • Roxi, employee Sarah Barnett's Rottweiler mix, offers plenty of love (and dog fur) to go around when she comes to the office. Sarah Barnett/The HSUS

  • Bella, Carie Lewis's canine office companion, enjoys a break with employee Sarah Barnett outside The HSUS office. Carie Lewis/The HSUS

  • Moxie likes coming to work so she can be close to her owners, Betsy and Mike McFarland. Baby gates help keep The HSUS office dogs in their own spaces. Michelle Riley/The HSUS

  • The HSUS's Jordan Crump brings her friendly mutt Murphy to work with her. Murphy keeps track of who has the tastiest dog treats at their desks. Michelle Riley/The HSUS

  • Sleepy pup Tonka loves his plaid blanket in Ashley Mauceri's cubicle. Ashley Mauceri/The HSUS

Inspired by Take Your Dog to Work Day®, created by Pet Sitters International and held this year on June 25, The Humane Society of the United State established a pet-friendly policy for HSUS offices in 2007.

Now The HSUS and Petplan, America’s top-rated pet insurance provider and one of The HSUS’s corporate partners, are teaming up to encourage businesses to consider programs permitting employees to bring dogs in the workplace.

A dogs at work policy can increase productivity, boost morale, and strengthen the bond between people and their pets. It has certainly worked for The HSUS and PetPlan.

Check out the photos above of just a few of the beloved pooches who join our HSUS employees at work.

Bringing your dog to work will not only make your dog happy, but it could also increase dog adoptions nationwide. Research has shown that one of the main reasons people decide not to adopt pets is because they are too often away at work.
