Video: Relief for Beleaguered Pet Owners

Dog, cat food arrives to help keep families together

The Humane Society of the United States

Movie

As the oil spill tragedy continues to unfold, affecting the delicate marshes and untold wildlife of the Gulf region, its tentacles have extended inland in another way: Many pet-loving Gulf residents whose livelihoods have been disrupted by the spill are finding they can no longer afford to care for their animal companions.

To stem that tide, The HSUS coordinated the delivery of 12 tons of dog and cat food generously donated by Mars Petcare, Inc., and another 700 pounds from The Humane Choice Company to be distributed directly to residents in the coastal areas. Helping us in these efforts is the Plaquemine Parish Animal Welfare Society and local authorities.
