Slideshow: Alleged Cockfighters Busted at Muddy, Bloody N.Y. Site
New York state police call in The HSUS to help with dozens of roosters in remote rural area
In the remote hills of central New York, down a muddy dirt road in the woods, are a ramshackle barn and an old yellow school bus with the seats stripped out. The landscape is strewn with debris—an overturned truck, overflowing trash cans. Yesterday, animal fighting experts from The HSUS's Animal Rescue Team deployed to this rural property to help the New York State Police raid an alleged cockfighting operation.
This morning, our staff joined the New York state police at their barracks in Fonda, N.Y., to announce the details of this successful bust. We thank the New York State Police for pursuing these charges and for calling on us to help stop this cruelty.
