Texas House of Representatives Passes Bill to Ban Trade in Shark Fins
The Texas House of Representatives passed H.B.852 to prohibit the sale, trade, purchase and transportation of shark fins in Texas. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Eddie Lucio III, D-District 38, passed the House with a 87-42 vote.

New Laws Protect Companion Animals in West Virginia
Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin has signed two important companion animal welfare bills into law. The bills establish better protections for dogs in commercial dog breeding facilities and support spay/neuter programs in West Virginia.

Hawaii Governor Urged to Sign Animal-Protection Bills
The Hawaii State Legislature unanimously passed a number of animal protection bills to strengthen animal cruelty laws, help residents find rental housing that accepts pets, and make other improvements for animals in state policy. These bills now go to Gov. Neil Abercrombie for his approval.

TV Ad Urges Michigan Lawmakers to Protect Voting Rights and Michigan’s Wildlife
A new TV ad airing throughout Michigan is urging state lawmakers to oppose legislation that would take away the rights of Michigan voters to have a say on any new hunting and trapping seasons of traditional non-game animals, including wolves and sandhill cranes.
