San Diego Pet Store Drops Lawsuit Challenging Anti-Puppy Mill Ordinance

(Feb. 6, 2014) – A San Diego pet store has abandoned its efforts to overturn a San Diego ordinance restricting the sale of puppies from large-scale commercial dog breeding operations. Melanie Kahn, senior director of the Stop Puppy Mills campaign for The Humane Society of the United States, issued the following statement:

"We are pleased that San Diego Puppy, Inc. has decided to drop its misguided challenge to the San Diego ordinance. Measures such as these crack down on inhumane puppy mills by shrinking the supply of puppy mill dogs flooding the market. They also lead to an increase of adoptions of homeless animals and an increase in sales for small, responsible dog breeders.”
