Maine Animal Sanctuary Receives Emergency Grant After Fatal Fire
The Ark Animal Sanctuary in Houlton, Maine, will receive an emergency grant of $2,500 from The Humane Society of the United States. The grant will assist in rebuilding efforts after a fire claimed the lives of 16 cats and destroyed the sanctuary’s new building.
ARK representatives, community supporters and animal welfare advocates from around the state are have offered assistance and are focused on rebuilding.
According to Ark spokesperson Lorraine Monfils, cash donations and supplies including cat food and litter are most needed at this time. Anyone interested in making a donation to this effort may send it care of Lorraine Monfils at 70 Main St., Houlton, Maine, 04730.
