Salem, Ore. Considers Ban to Crack Down on Roadside Pet Sales

In response to mounting concerns among city residents, the Salem City Council is considering an ordinance to restrict the roadside sale of puppies. Scott Beckstead, Oregon state director of The Humane Society of the United States, issued the following statement:

“The unregulated sale of puppies and other animals on public streets and sidewalks by irresponsible breeders creates a safety and health hazard for the public and the animals themselves. We urge the Salem City Council to take action to address this growing problem by passing an ordinance to ban this practice, thereby creating safer streets, healthier animals and more responsible breeding practices.”
