Conn. Lawmakers Deny Charla Nash’s Plea to Sue State

Connecticut lawmakers denied Charla Nash’s request to sue the state after she was mauled by a pet chimpanzee in 2009. Nicole Paquette, vice president of wildlife protection for The Humane Society of the United States issued the following statement:

“What happened to Charla Nash is a tragedy that never had to happen. Congress should immediately enact the Captive Primate Safety Act, which would shut down the interstate trade in primates as pets. This legislation will protect animals that are entirely unsuited for living in domestic settings and will help prevent future attacks like this one that has caused so much pain and suffering for Charla Nash.”
